#TheNewNormal. The Hybrid Challenge to develop a Digital Szenography

Matthias Henkel, Chair ICOM MPR

We are living in uncertain times and we are dealing with buzzwords like: The New Normal, Digitalization, Transformation, Climate Change.  We not only have to reimagine the museum definition – we have to reimagine our way of life. Therefore a new understanding sustainability is needed. That means: we need more than ever mental openness.

During my presentation, I will formulate 7 theses that will support us in meeting these requirements.

Traditional museums have taken centuries to develop authentic scenography. We should also take this aspect into account when developing a hybrid scenography:

  • we should really break new ground
  • we should not be afraid to make mistakes
  • we should develop an own authentic design language for the boundlessness of digital space.

To put I all-in-one: THE HYBRID WORLD NEEDS A HYBRID SZENOGRAPHY.
